Mystopia - DEMO is coming on July 18th!

Hello everyone! I’m Ataberk, the game designer of Mystopia and in this post, I'll talk about our game, Mystopia, and the team behind it.

Meet The Team!

We're a team of five friends from Turkey who make cozy video games, and Mystopia is our first commercial project. We have been dreaming of making indie games for years and finally we have got the hang of it. None of us has a degree in game development or is studying in a related field, but we're all self-taught developers.

If you've ever been in the world of making a video game with a team, you've probably heard the phrase "one person wearing many hats", and so we all had to wear many hats. Our programmer also does marketing, our 3D artists also do 2D art and concepts, and so on.

What is Mystopia?

Mystopia is a sandbox experience in that you can build and decorate your world with blocks, inspired from witchcraft of various cultures. The core gameplay is very simple: you click letters to obtain items and that’s it - the rest is up to your imagination.

Mystopia gives you blocks in a progressive manner.  Every letter you open gives you a chance to discover a new block. The more you play, the more block types you will discover.

I live in one of the most cosmopolitan and historic cities in the world. This gives me more chances to see more captivating harmony between different culture - so the different cultures thing comes from my in real life experiences. I'd love to see beautiful worlds that are created in Mystopia.

We'll have blocks from three different cultures at our launch: Europe, Japan & China. Here are some examples:

You clicked the letters and got the items, what are you supposed to do now? Well, as I mentioned before, it's really totally up to your creativity - check our the worlds our team built for our Steam Page:

..but wait, there's more! Check out the Special Blocks:

It is not only limited to obtaining letters. To make your worlds feel more unique, you can mix items you find in your world to craft potions, in a special block we call The Cauldron. You can use the potions for several different mystifying effects, such as changing background, turning the world upside down, and many more.

Besides The Cauldron, there's another block  we call The Pentagram. We call it The Pentagram because, well, cause it's a pentagram. You can discard items that you don’t want to by dragging them onto the pentagram. In return, you get souls that you can use in the stop that you can open it by clicking on The Pentagram. This is a different way of receiving blocks. In contrast to the letters, if you're lucky, you may get the blocks you want.

I think that's enough for now. I don't want to spoil everything in one post. I hope I was able to get you excited about us and Mystopia. We have a lot of ideas in our pockets and we're also open to all your wonderful ideas. Add us to your wishlist and stay tuned for more updates.
